When: Saturday, April 12th from 8:30am to 2pm
Where: Association of the Miraculous Medal
475 Chelten Ave. (across from the shrine)
Why: The purpose of our April 12th gathering is to report progress on small wins and to review and prioritize the goals that came out of our February 2nd gathering. We will pray for guidance as we discern and refine further
our parish goals and make decisions about the direction for our community.
RSVP: There will be sign-up sheets at the church
doors today and each Sunday through April 6.
A continental breakfast will be served. Bring your own brown-bag lunch and a dessert to share. Regretfully, babysitting cannot be provided. A list of the goals for review and a more detailed agenda for the day will be distributed in early April.
Please make time to be a part of this important gathering of our community. Please respond to the Call to Community.
Second Sunday of Easter
A "small win" that emerged from one of the Prayer and Adult Education groups on our first Call to Community Day in February was to invite members of our faith community to join existing or form new small faith-sharing groups. These groups of 8-12 people create the opportunity for shared reflection on scripture in relationship to the experience of God in our lives; enable members to hear together the challenge to grow in faith; and provide support for making the commitment to respond. There are two existing groups; however, these groups are full and their members have offered support for the formation of new groups. There is interest in forming at least one young adult group (for those in their twenties through early thirties). The number of groups, their make-up, when they begin, and how often they will meet, will depend on the response of our community.
Please consider this invitation to participate in a small faith-sharing group. A sign-up Saturday and Sunday will be held April 12 and 13 after the Masses for those interested in becoming part of a group. Details on the formation of small faith-sharing groups will be forthcoming. For more information or to express your interest in being part of a small group, contact Clare Cunningham (young adults) at 215-806-3653 or eclare@nursing.upenn.edu or Joan Brooks at 267-825-6989 or jmblapaz@yahoo.com.
PARISH MINISTRIES: TELL US WHAT YOU NEED!
One of the "Social Gospel" discussion groups at the Feb. 2 Parish Call to Community wants to take an inventory of our many parish ministry groups to find out WHO NEEDS HELP. That way we can help you connect eager parishioner-volunteers with the groups that need them. A parishioner will be contacting a leader of each ministry soon with a short questionnaire. If you are a ministry leader and want to be sure we reach you about this, we would love to hear from you! Please contact Michelle
Williams (Shelly_2929@msn.com 267-342-4006) or Mary Laver (mlaver14@comcast.net 610-668-9845.

LEARNING LAB
When adult learners enroll at St. Vincent's Learning Lab, they must state their goals for attending the Lab. Many state that they wan employment along with their desire to read, wrtie, do math or pursue their G.E.D. (These are just a few of the stated goals.) Catherine St. John is a volunteer for Inn Dwelling and has been attempting to help our learners find that employment. Because of her efforts, several of the adult learners have obtained jobs. Employment helps to better lives within a family and has a positive effect on the civic community. We at the St. Vincent's Learning Lab are grateful to both Catherine
St. John and Inn Dwelling for making this possible.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION EVENT
The Easter season gives all Christians an opportunity to reconnect with their baptism. Come join us for a discussion about baptism. The Returning Threat of Genocide in Sudan
Genocide was the word President Bush invoked three years ago to describe the joint actions in Darfur of the Sudanese government and its close ally, the Janjaweed militia. After government planes bombed villages where guerrilla forces were thought to be strong, the Janjaweed would ride in on horses and camels to burn, pillage, rape, and shoot. Over 200,000 lives were lost during 2003 and 2004 as a result of this violence. Although the violence has been relatively quiescent over the past few years attacks have been renewed with the same coordination of air power, government troops, and allied militias. Only now, the violence is threatening to spread to beyond Darfur to Southern Sudan.
The international response has been inadequate. The UN had pledged to place 26,000 peacekeepers in Darfur by January, but only 9,000 are yet there. Furthermore, they are without the 24 helicoptrs they need to patrol the region. According to past UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, "We have these conflects where no one really wants to get involved, powerful countries with means will not tough it...they will support weak, ineffectual initiatives by others...to create the impression of action."
The P & J Ministry is currently exploring links with a local group, the Darfur Alert Coalition and will report back on any developments.

Prayers for an End to Violence
If you are concerned about the violence in our neighborhood, our city, our country, and our world and want to do something simple, effective, and concrete, join us in front of Germantown High School (on Germantown Avenue) on Thursday evenings at 6:45pm for ½ hour of prayer. You are welcome to participate for 30 minutes or 5 minutes. For more information, call Joe or Carroll Clay at 215-248-3563.
