Save the date: Saturday, April 12 from 8:30am - 2pm. This continuation of the lively discussions and fellowship we experienced on February 2 will be an opportunity for g roups to share their "small win" accomplishments and for all of us to discuss and prioritize the goals that we discussed at our first gathering. Please plan to attend. More details will be provided in the coming weekends.

WRITERS OF PETITIONS NEEDED

We are in need of more writers. If you feel called or would like to look into this ministry, please contact

Peg McFadden at 215-745-3828 or pegmcfadden@hotmail.com.

PARISH MINISTRIES: TELL US WHAT YOU NEED!

One of the "Social Gospel" discussion groups at the Feb. 2 Parish Call to Community wants to take an inventory of our many parish ministry groups to find out WHO NEEDS HELP. That way we can help you connect eager parishioner-volunteers with the groups that need them. A parishioner will be contacting a leader of each ministry soon with a short questionnaire. If you are a ministry leader and want to be sure we reach you about this, we would love to hear from you! Please contact Michelle

Williams (Shelly_2929@msn.com 267-342-4006) or Mary Laver (mlaver14@comcast.net 610-668-9845.

LEARNING LAB

Believe it or not, 27 million Americans are functionally illiterate (about one adult in five) and the rate is climbing.

The solution to this problem is YOU!! Join the fight against illiteracy. Become a tutor at St. Vincent's Learning Lab. Will you give time (about 2 hours) either morning or evening to help someone read or achieve their G.E.D.? The only degree you need is a degree of caring. Contact Sr. Rosella at 215-849-9416.

SOME COMMUNITY THANK YOUS

From Covenant House: Thank you for the gift of $262.63 (from a recent Lenten Cluster Event collection)...Because of your kindness, we will be able to continue to provide shelter and support services to all the homeless, runaway and at-risk youth who come to our door.

From Joy Wuenschel: At long last you can remove me from your prayer list. After 6+ years of using a cane, I am finally walking without it and am ever so grateful to be able to walk this well. Sister Ruth was right: THE POWER OF PRAYER works! Thank you for your unfailing prayers and support.

MARY MOTHER OF CAPTIVES SUPPORT GROUP

"I was in prison and you visited me..."Matthew 25:36

PEACE AND JUSTICE CORNER

5th Anniversary of the U.S. Invasion of Iraq

A van load of St. Vincent's members will be going to Washington D.C. on Wednesday, March 19, the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. We have room for two more riders; one rider can come at no cost due to a generous offer of support from someone who cannot travel. The van will be leaving 30th Street Station at 7:30am and returning there at 7:30pm. Call Blaise Tobia at 215-387-9706 if you might be interested. This trip is partly in remembrance of the action in Philadelphia on March 20, 2003 - the day of the invasion - when 107 people were arrested at the Federal Building, including members of St. Vincent's.

Besides the Good Friday Way of the Cross at St. Vincent's (the 15th annual), those more specifically oriented towards antiwar protest might want to participate in the Brandywine Peace Community's noontime "Trail of Mourning & Truth - Nonviolent Resistance at the Iraq War's Chief Weapons Profiteer, Lockheed Martin" at Mall & Goddard Boulevards behind the King of Prussia Mall.

Sharon Browning, a member of our community, has been on a ten-day trip to Israel and Palestine with a group of mediators from the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association of Conflict Resolution. The trip, called "Just Listening to Israel," was made to listen to the stories of people on many sides of the conflict there and to bring their stories back to Philadelphia. Sharon was invited to facilitate the process for the group. Our prayers are sought for the people of this troubled part of our world.

PRAYERS FOR AN END TO VIOLENCE

If you are concerned about the violence in our neighborhood, our city, our country, and our world and want to do something simple, effective, and concrete, join us in front of Germantown High School (on Germantown Avenue) on Thursday evenings at 6:45pm for ½ hour of prayer. You are welcome to participate for 30 minutes or 5 minutes. For more information, call Joe or Carroll Clay at 215-248-3563.

SCULPTURE EXHIBIT

You are invited to view Virginia Maksymowicz's sculptural reliefs of The Stations on the Cross on display in New York City throughout March at the National Museum of Catholic Art and History, 443 East 115th Street (at Pleasant Avenue) in Spanish Harlem. The Museum is open Monday - Friday 11:00am - 5:00pm (but you might have to ring the bell or call the office if no one is staffing the front door: 212-828-5209).
